Dr. Jasmine Bajwa, Registered Psychologist
The decision to make meaningful changes in one’s life can be both exciting and overwhelming. It is a time of excitement because of what can be achieved but also overwhelming if we don’t know where to start or have the right tools to achieve our goals. Regardless of the journey ahead, the most critical piece has already been put in place: a hope for a better life. Typically when people pursue therapy, they have already tried different ways to improve their circumstances and are looking for some expert guidance towards achieving their full potential. With over 15 years of graduate-training and clinical experience working in diverse mental health settings, I am equipped to treat a broad range of issues and to assist people at various stages of the change process. In my experience, having a strong therapeutic relationship and sharing the same perspective for how goals will be achieved is crucial to positive outcomes in counselling. This is why I bring a straightforward, practical, and team-work approach into the counselling relationship so that clients feel empowered and supported during their therapy journey. I am known for using humour, stories, and metaphors to enrich the therapeutic conversations.
As a Registered Psychologist, I am trained to use current research for the most effective way to treat a presenting concern and to assist clients with applying these strategies in their own lives. My primary approach in therapy is cognitive behavioural, meaning that I help people manage difficult emotions and life events by examining and changing unhelpful patterns in their thinking and actions. However, I also integrate other therapy methods such as mindfulness, values, and solution-focused in order to meet the unique needs of my clients. My practice primarily focuses on treating mood disorders, managing stress and improving general wellness, enhancing self-esteem, strengthening relationships and communication, navigating life transitions, and treating adult ADHD. I also provide therapy to couples at various stages of their relationship status and take a non-judgmental stance to help couples target areas that will create healthy interactions. I welcome individuals and couples from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds, acculturation experiences, genders, and sexual orientations. I understand people have limited time, patience, and finances so we will work together to overcome past hurdles and create a plan towards achieving your goals.
“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom”
