Ms. Kenedy Dowler, Registered Psychologist

Certified Grief Recovery Specialist®

~ Accepting New Clients (Virtual Only) ~

My work as a Registered Psychologist is grounded in two beliefs. First, the experience of being listened to – actually heard – is invaluable. Second, there is an infinite wisdom within each of us that is too often an untapped source. I am honoured by the opportunity to facilitate both, to bear witness to individuals at their rawest and most vulnerable, and then guide and support them in finding within themselves the volition and strength to move through discomfort and pain toward healing. I use evidence-based practices and a gentle, warm, collaborative approach to do just that.

Over the past decade, therapeutic experience in private practice, a provincial health agency, and a rehabilitative setting has enriched my skills in working with anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship concerns, identity, health, and work-related issues. Throughout, I have fostered a specialization in and passion for working with grief. Despite loss being one of very few experiences we are guaranteed to have, we are taught so little of how to deal with it. However, this need not sentence us to a life of suffering. Through the experience of being heard and equipped with the right education and tools, it is possible to recover from the pain, isolation, and loneliness characteristic of grief. As a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist®, I have supported individuals who have experienced loss through death, divorce and break-up, miscarriage and pregnancy loss, loss of a pet, infidelity, intimate partner abuse, age and/or injury out of sport, unplanned career change, health and mental health diagnoses, caregiver burnout, and life transitions such as moving, graduation, and retirement. I use my own history of loss and struggle to inform the work that I do; although we can never truly know the experience of another, I believe it allows me to sit with others from a place of understanding.

“We can let the circumstances of our lives harden us so that we become increasingly resentful and afraid, or we can let them soften us, and make us kinder. You always have the choice.” ~ Dalai Lama
