Dr. Holly Whyte
Dr. Holly Whyte, Registered Psychologist
I am a doctoral level Registered Psychologist in Edmonton with 10 years of counselling and assessment experience. I have had the opportunity to work with individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds and I believe that our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are all interconnected. If we change one area, we can create change in another area. I also believe that people are capable of learning, unlearning, and relearning new ways to approach, solve, or understand their difficult life situations.
My way of approaching therapy matches my way of approaching life; which is why I chose to study this connection as my doctoral research topic. I am an authentic, active, and directive therapist who will work with you to accomplish your therapy goals. I am known to use humour, metaphors, and education to facilitate change. Ultimately, I believe that through warmth, compassion, and non-judgment that a safe and caring therapy environment can be created, which will allow you to feel comfortable sharing your personal information and difficulties.
My experience is derived from a number of sources including:
- Working as a teacher and sessional instructor at the university level has shaped my approach whereby I often incorporate an educational component into my therapy sessions when appropriate
- Completing two internships at a university counselling centre has enriched my skills in working with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and suicidality
- Working in rehabilitation centres has facilitated my development in the areas of chronic pain, work related issues, developmental concerns, and health issues
- My training and experience using Prolonged Exposure has helped me in working with single incident and cumulative trauma; including childhood abuse, trauma involving fatalities, and the First Responder population
“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change”
