Introducing YEG Psychology Kids

When we first opened YEG Psychology, our goal was simple: to create a place where people could find high-quality psychological care from clinicians they could genuinely trust.

As our practice grew, something became increasingly clear. Our clients didn’t only need support for themselves. They needed support for their children, too.

We heard the same question again and again:

“Do you know someone good for my child?”

We had wonderful clinicians in the community we trusted and referred to, but those options often filled quickly. And we understood why parents were asking us. When it comes to your child, “someone” isn’t enough. You want someone experienced, someone who understands children, and someone you genuinely trust.

That became the beginning of YEG Psychology Kids.

We Wanted Somewhere We Would Take Our Own Kids

This part is personal for us.

We are both psychologists, but we are also moms. And we have both been on the other side of the therapy room, taking our own children to psychologists when they needed support.

Knowing psychology professionally doesn’t make that experience feel any less vulnerable. When it’s your child, you still wonder whether you’re doing the right thing. You still want someone who will understand them, connect with them, and recognize that not every difficult behaviour means something is wrong.

Kids are complicated little people. They can be anxious, sensitive, hilarious, stubborn, thoughtful, overwhelmed, resilient, and wonderful, sometimes all within the same ten minutes.

When we sought support for our own kids, we wanted someone we trusted. Someone who would include us as parents while also creating a relationship with our child that was their own.

That experience has stayed with us, and it has shaped what we want YEG Psychology Kids to be.

We want to be able to tell another parent, “We have someone.” And know that we would feel comfortable taking our own children to that person too.

Kids Need Different Kinds of Support

Sometimes a child needs help with anxiety, big emotions, friendships, grief, or changes in their family. Sometimes a teenager is struggling and their parents aren’t sure how to reach them. Sometimes a teacher notices concerns with attention or learning, and suddenly a family is wondering about ADHD, autism, or a learning difficulty and doesn’t know where to begin.

And sometimes a child isn’t struggling at all. They’re working toward something.

Young athletes and performers face pressure, nerves, expectations, setbacks, and challenges to their confidence. Sport and performance psychology can help kids build the mental skills that support them not only in their sport or performance, but outside of it too.

YEG Psychology Kids will bring these services together, offering therapy for children, preteens, and teenagers, parent support and coaching, sport and performance psychology, and comprehensive assessments for learning and academic concerns, ADHD, autism, emotional functioning, and behaviour.

Families don’t need to know exactly what they need before reaching out. We can start there together.

A Space Actually Made for Kids

We also don’t want YEG Psychology Kids to feel like an adult psychology clinic that happens to allow children inside.

We’re creating spaces specifically with kids and teens in mind, with toys, games, sensory items, books, and activities for different ages and stages. Some of the toys are even coming from our own homes because our kids loved them.

And because a teenager definitely doesn’t want to walk into a room designed for a six-year-old, we’re thinking about them too.

We want kids to walk in and feel comfortable. We want parents to feel confident about where they’ve brought them.

Why We’re Growing

YEG Psychology Kids feels like a natural next chapter for us.
It grew from years of parents asking us where they should take their children, but it also grew from our own experiences as moms asking ourselves that very same question.

We want families in our community to have access to child psychologists and comprehensive services in one place, with clinicians whose experience and quality of care we stand behind.

Sometimes the first step is simply being able to say, “Something is going on with my child, and I think we could use some help.”

We can start there.

YEG Psychology Kids opens this fall, and we truly cannot wait to welcome you and your kids.
