Occupational Therapy Services

Are there meaningful activities you once did or want to do that you have stopped engaging in? Perhaps life has shifted, demands have changed, energy or motivation feels different, or you have begun avoiding things that once mattered to you. Occupational therapy can help you reconnect with those paused or lost parts of your life and rebuild confidence in your daily routines.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy focuses on the activities that give your life structure and meaning such as your work, leisure, self-care, and participation in your community. It also considers the things you are not currently doing or not yet able to do, and explores why this may be.

By examining your unique situation, environment, strengths, and challenges, your occupational therapist helps you find practical ways to re-engage in what matters most. This process supports not only daily function but also identity, purpose, and overall well-being.

Maybe the journey isn’t so much about becoming anything. Maybe it’s about un-becoming everything that isn’t really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.

What Can I Expect from Occupational Therapy?

At YEG Psychology, occupational therapy is designed to help you restore balance, re-engage in meaningful activities, and build confidence in your daily life. Sessions can take place either in-person or virtually, depending on your needs, comfort, and the nature of your goals.

In your first session, your occupational therapist will focus on understanding your current routines, challenges, and hopes for therapy. Together, you will explore what you are doing, what you are not doing, and what you would like to begin doing again. This initial meeting provides an opportunity to discuss your environment, supports, and barriers, and to begin identifying meaningful goals for therapy. The first session is typically 60 minutes in length.

During your second session, you and your therapist will identify activities that are meaningful to you but have become difficult to engage in. You will develop an activity inventory to help prioritize these goals and explore the factors that make them challenging. Your therapist will also introduce grounding and pacing strategies to help regulate energy, manage stress, and build confidence as you prepare to re-engage in these activities.

In your third session and beyond, you and your therapist will begin practicing re-engagement using the skills and strategies developed in earlier sessions. Exposure sessions are typically 90 minutes in order to allow time for hands-on practice, reflection, and debriefing. Over time, you will gradually build momentum, address obstacles, and track progress together.

As therapy continues, your occupational therapist will help you refine your strategies, celebrate your progress, and integrate meaningful activity into your everyday life. The goal is to help you feel capable, connected, and confident as you restore balance and engagement in the areas that matter most to you.

How does Confidentiality Work in Occupational Therapy?

Your occupational therapist will review confidentiality with you during your first session. Everything you share in therapy is kept confidential and will not be disclosed without your consent, except where required by law or ethical obligation such as concerns for your safety or the safety of others. If your therapy involves collaboration with other healthcare providers, your therapist will only share relevant information with your explicit permission. Confidentiality is a foundational part of the therapeutic relationship and is treated with the utmost respect.

What is the Length of an Occupational Therapy Session?

The first session is 60 minutes in length. Subsequent sessions are 90 minutes to allow adequate time for activity engagement and reflection. Additional time may be arranged for travel or setup depending on the location or nature of the intervention.
