“We often find that the harder we try to get rid of emotions and thoughts, the stronger they become. This is because parts, like people, fight back against being shamed or exiled.”
~ Richard C. Schwartz

Life can be a topsy-turvy ride. Sometimes, it takes all our strength to hold on. Other times, we feel lost and unsure how to get back on track. When you find yourself struggling, it can be valuable to have the outside perspective, knowledge and support of a psychologist. In my experience, even the biggest burdens can be lightened when we feel truly seen, heard and understood by a skilled listener.

My fundamental approach as a therapist is to join you with respect, compassion, humility and genuine openness. I aim to practice from a wholistic viewpoint that considers the history and context of your life, as well as the emotions, thoughts, behaviours and body sensations you may be struggling with. My intent is to help you develop more balance and peace in your inner world, as well as more confidence and courage in your external life and relationships. You can expect me to be warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental, as well as authentic, straightforward, and humorous.

I won’t ask you to fit a specific model of therapy. Instead, we will work together in a creative process to discover what best meets your goals, experiences and needs. To co-create a customized therapeutic approach, I draw on my knowledge of several therapy models including internal family systems, emotion-focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) and somatic therapies. I am also trained in treating trauma with EMDR, cognitive processing therapy (CPT), and prolonged exposure. For couples work, I am trained in the Gottman Method.

A special passion area of mine is reproductive and perinatal mental health, including trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, identity changes, and role strain. I have specialized training in perinatal mental health, including a certificate in advanced perinatal mental health psychotherapy, and continue to seek ongoing education. My experiences of being a child of immigrant parents and becoming a mother while living abroad also influence my interest in cultural impacts on mental health.
